While the rest of us Columbians were loosening our belts in eager anticipation of the Thanksgiving grub fest, our own President Obama was busy, you know, being diplomatic and all, at his first official state dinner on Tuesday night where he welcomed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife.

Just look at the President's grin.
Even Prime Minister Singh seems to be eying the beautiful gown.

However, although the President looked dashing as always in classy black tie attire, it was Michelle Obama who stole the spotlight in her dazzling sleeveless gold dress - and with no cardigan in sight! Pairing her gown with large drop earrings, thin gold Indian bangles, and a shawl, she looked every bit the first lady.
Apropos to the Indian-themed event, the gown was custom-made by the Indian-American designer Naeem Khan. The exquisite sequin floral detailing is reminiscent of traditional lavish Indian embellishments and brocades but in a more subtle, modern uptake.
One look at Naeem Khan's other work reveals his expertise in mixing rich fabrics, textures, and embellishments - the perfect glittering additions to the holiday season.
